Photography speaks to us because it is a visual language. I am inspired to make photographs that depict the essence of the people and the spirit of day.
My approach to family and wedding photography is similar to my documentary work: I photograph moments as they unfold. I look for beauty in not just the obvious but in all that is messy and imperfect too. Emotional. Intimate. Visceral.
With 20 years of experience as a photojournalist, I have learned to work invisibly and fast in both intimate and chaotic situations, find beautiful light, and gently lead when necessary. From 2008-2012, I was a second photographer for Meg Smith, primarily photographing film throughout Northern California. Meg introduced me to the beauty and texuture of film photography in weddings.
I photograph with both 35mm and 120mm format film, and I mix it up with digital photography, especially at night and inside. My process is slow and intentional – you will not receive 1000 digital images of your day. You will receive thoughtfully selected film scans (and digital files). I realize that my approach and process may not be for everyone as I strive to hold truth to my vision as an artist. My clients are often creative, down to earth, and spontaneous at heart.
My published photographic work has taken me throughout beautiful Northern California, where I was born and raised, as well as SE Asia and Latin America, including Brazil where I lived for seven years, and received several international grants and exhibitions.
I currently live in Philadelphia with the loves of my life, my husband & filmmaker, Fábio Erdos, and our rambunctious four-year-old.
